Dwile Flonking From Harleston
1967 , Harleston (Norfolk)
Cat no. 143028
Anglia Television report on a 'traditional' East Anglian sport.
Michael Cole reports from Harleston Carnival in Norfolk, where teams from Harleston and Halesworth are competing in a 'ye olde Dwile Flonking contest' in which they take turns dancing around each other and attempt to avoid a beer-soaked dwile cloth. Cole interviews Doug Harper, the willfully eccentric 'non-playing chief flonker' of the Harleston team, who attempts to outline the rules and organisational structure of the sport, and explain the virtues of a champion Dwile Flonker, namely the 'capacity to take beer' and 'be an idiot'.
