Oyster Fishing
1961 , Brightlingsea (Essex)
Cat no. 124390
Anglia Television news footage of oyster fishing at Brightlingsea.
Anglia Television follows an oyster boat and its fishermen at work; preparing the boat and leaving the harbour, casting a wire net overboard at sea and dredging for oysters, sorting the catch and discarding shells back into the water. The fishermen row a boat to the shore, working as a team to unload the oysters and carry the baskets up the beach to the official fisheries stores. One of the fishermen is happy to sample the produce, others pack oysters into barrels. A final location shot shows the seafront view of the Essex coastal town of Brightlingsea.
