Anglia Television programme addressing problems of traffic and parking in East Anglia and further afield.
At the start of the 1960s, the country faces hard decisions regarding congestion on its roads, the availability of parking in its towns and cities and the need for new highways and motorways. Through interviews with road users and key stakeholders, this Anglia Television programme - presented by John McGregor - explores the problems of increased traffic using outdated roads and the measures required to improve them. Among those interviewed are the General Secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union, Frank Cousins, who discusses transport problems in East Anglia and the rest of the country, and raises concerns about inadequate government spending. Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Ernest Marples, talks about some of the historical causes for lack of action, distinguishes between building sufficient roads between towns and the problems in town centres, defends the government's spending plans and discusses the Ministry's ideas, plans and progress in tackling the problem.
